The center of this universe is Microsoft Excel, a common application used by the typical data analyst.<br \/>\nThe following four products started off as add-ins for Excel. Now, some of them are an integral part of MS Office 2013.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Power Query<\/li>\n<li>Power Pivot<\/li>\n<li>Power View<\/li>\n<li>Power Map<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is not surprising that these four business intelligence products have a cloud offering in Office 365.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we will explore how a typical BI request on the Adventure Works 2012 DW database can leverage these tools.<\/p>\n<p>I will be covering the following topics in this presentation:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grabbing data with Power Query.<\/li>\n<li>Transforming data with Power Query.<\/li>\n<li>Storing data with Power Query.<\/li>\n<li>De-normalizing data for speed.<\/li>\n<li>DAX language is in the tabular data model.<\/li>\n<li>Power Pivot tables and charts.<\/li>\n<li>Adding slicers to Power Pivot.<\/li>\n<li>Adding the WOW effect with Power View<\/li>\n<li>Various Power View reports.<\/li>\n<li>Filtering vs drill down.<\/li>\n<li>Using the map to plot real world data.<\/li>\n<li>Story telling with tours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Biography:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>John has over twenty years of IT experience including a Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of Rhode Island with concentrations<br \/>\nin database technologies and programming languages. He also has Microsoft Certificates for Database Administration (MCDBA) and System Administration (MCSA).<\/p>\n<p>John is currently a Senior Platform Engineer at Atrion.
